Quilt in progress for Daddy.

12/31/16

Today I was working on an old Stack-n-Whack. Last week I put together 4 blocks. Last night and today I put together another 3. I have 2 more blocks that I have to cut more squares for the background. The pinwheel fabric I cut about 14 years ago.

This month I cut the background white-on-white fabric. I have more Stack-n-Whack blocks cut out that I will add to this I am going put a yellow border on all the blocks and quilt each block then put them all together with #QAYGmethod from Leah Day's freemotionquilting.blogspot.com

I also have some Lemoyne Star blocks to put together. I want this quilt to be large enough to cover Daddy.

UFO projects at the end of 2016

1. The Dancing Butterfly all blocks need backing and batting. They need to be quilted and put together.

2. 3 Dresden plates to put together on one wall hanging - or split up to be table toppers.

3. Tommy's pinwheel Stack-n-Whack. Quilted... need to put together #qayg

4. Shawn's wedding quilt Friendship Stars need to finish quilting and decide what kind of border to do for it. #qayg

5. Large 9patch quilt...finish quilting and bind it.

6. Purple quilt - I will quilt 4 sections (about 50x45) and then put them together. It is ready to be sandwiched and quilted. I also have a pillow to make.

Mother's 10 minute block quilt in progress

This is 24 blocks from 10-minute blocks. Mom put them together this year. I quilted them per her instructions.

I will be cutting the binding for putting the blocks together. I will have MOM watch the videos for putting them together from Leah Day. I basted the outside edge of each block to keep the fabric from folding back or flipping up when we go to bind them together in #QAYGmethod. The 24 blocks will be set 4 across x 6 down.

Grandmother (my mom) is making quilts.

My mom started quilting this year. She comes to my studio to work with me on the weekends.
She was working from "10 Minute Blocks" . She decided she liked the green and the yellow. She sewed 24 of these large blocks.

Here we have the blocks as I was basting them to be ready for quilting.

Here is the back of one of them after I quilted it.

This is the front of the block.

This is a closeup of the center quilting.

Another close up.

Happy 4th of July.

I have been busy today. This morning I tried to go back to bed at 4am. I started coughing again and got up and went to my studio. I got a wild hair and started working on a Dresden plate wall hanging.

This is a 7 inch.

The pink is a 6 inch circle.
And I made a 5 inch circle. I have the fixings for a 4 inch to add. I think I will stack these on a 30 inch background. I'm not sure what I'll use.

I was quilting and forgot to make sure the background didn't get folded. I ripped it out.
I'm quilting the cats trying to finish them soon and maybe even put a quilted border on it.

Warm Warm February!

Today is my step-son's birthday! 12 years old. Growing like a weed. Tonight we have his friend sleeping over ( I hope they sleep at some point ).

The weather was sunny and windy today. It got up to 70. I worked in my building for about 3 hours. I've decided to finish the chicken crazy quilt. I have the binding sewn to the back and tomorrow I will sew it to the front with a decorative stitch.

Regarding my Dancing Butterfly Quilt A Long: I finished satin stitching the butterflies. I'm pretty happy with them. Now I want to finish Mother's quilt using some of the quilting filler designs from the DBQaL.

Dancing Butterfly part 1

I am starting the "Dancing Butterfly Quilt-a-long"

I am using fat quarters from "Floral Cascade" for RJR Fashion Fabrics for the Butterflies and for the design squares. (There were about 30 different fat quarters in this stack. I used the blues for the butterflies.)

I have washed and starched and ironed my fat quarters and ironed on my butterfly applique pieces.
(starching and ironing took 4 hours on my feet--ouch)

I have decided that I'm going to use orange and yellow for my butterfly blocks-kind of to represent the sun and the oranges in the flowers.

I'm going to use the extra florals for the back side of my design blocks and I will use red for the back of my butterfly blocks and use the red for the joining strips and the binding.
I still need to do the satin stitching on my butterflies but that will have to wait for a warmer day.

I need to backtrack and make practice sandwiches.

Now on Jan 1, 2015 we are starting our new quilt along with Leah Day.
